Andrei Arshavin, former player of Zenit, spoke about the goal of Erling Haaland, striker of the Norway national team, in the 1/16 final match of the 2026 World Cup against Côte d'Ivoire. The match was held at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, with Norway winning 2-1.

Arshavin said in his statements: “He played as he does at Manchester City, where he takes 5-10 touches. He waited for this moment, however, he scored the goal in an uncertain way, but the important thing is that the ball entered the net. The technical element was not implemented correctly.

He added: “This reflects Haaland’s greatness as a striker, when you do not have many chances during the match, but you score at a high level. I'm not saying that they should have made a great effort to stop Haaland, because Norway had the ball for few periods and had limited attacks. However, they were dangerous. But at the right moment they were unable to mark Haaland, as the ball found his foot exactly.”

Haaland scored his goal in the 86th minute of the match, making this his sixth goal with the Norway national team.
