McInnes fit for Rangers rebuild - McPherson

Dave McPherson believes Derek McInnes is a suitable candidate for a Rangers rebuild, pointing to his success at Hearts. He suggests that McInnes' ability to build teams, develop players and deliver results makes him a strong option, especially with the club's need for stability.

Derek McInnes is a logical appointment who will rise to the challenge of Rangers' rebuilding, according to Dave McPherson. The Hearts boss is being strongly linked with a move to Ibrox, while Danny Rohe is expected to leave for RB Salzburg.

“Rangers need some stability,” said McPherson, a former Scotland defender who had two spells with Rangers and two spells with Hearts.

“Derek has proven, not just at Hearts, but at previous clubs he has managed, that he can build a good team, get the best out of players and get results, and that is what Rangers need right now.

“He would have been my choice as Rangers manager for a long time, but I think he proved even more at Hearts what a good manager he is.

"Rangers need to rebuild, and I think the time is right for a Scottish manager and someone who played at Rangers to come in and say: 'Okay, I can start from the bottom and build something big here.'

“He will get some money, but it will also depend on recruitment. You have to recruit the right players, and I think that's where Rangers have failed in the past.

"If you think about the work that went into Hearts last year, it was a fantastic setup, and everyone wanted to play for Hearts. He got the best out of the players, and I think if he can transfer that to the Rangers job, Rangers will be a good team to watch next season."

McInnes moved to Tynecastle from Kilmarnock last summer, as Hearts came very close to winning their first title in 66 years.

A loss at Celtic Park on the final day left the Eden side two points behind the defending champions and eight points ahead of Rangers.

Hearts captain Lawrence Shankland has already moved from Tynecastle to Ibrox, and McPherson says a McInnes move in the same direction would be a "huge blow", although he is confident the club can cope without their starting duo.

“I have no idea who they will go looking for, but there are big shoes to fill,” he said.

"Having spoken to a lot of people at Hearts last season, they have a really good setup. It's built in such a way that if they lose someone, they'll have things in the backfield that can replace a player or a coach, so I have full confidence that Hearts will do very well again next year."
