In the first half, Leeds had clearer chances but failed to convert them, while St Helens managed to score three tries to one: Alex Walasley, Kyle Fylde and Tristan Saylor all scored to build a clinical eight-point lead. Harry Newman added a try for Leeds early in the second half after Chris Hankinson's try in the first half, and with two penalties from Jack Conner in each half, the score was level at 16-16 heading into the final quarter. And so it continued until seven minutes remaining, when Conner added his third penalty to take the lead with St Helens' David Klemmer sent off for unprovoked behavior on Hankinson. Mike Cifo then continued his impressive form for Leeds this season by scoring a late effort to secure victory - his 20th goal of the season, six more than any other player in the league. The victory also ends a 10-year curse on St Helens' victories at Headingley.
