Portugal begins the search for a new coach after the 2026 World Cup

The Portuguese national team has begun searching for a replacement for coach Roberto Martinez after the end of the 2026 World Cup, according to journalist Ben Jacobs. The list of candidates drawn up by the Portuguese Football Federation includes Jorge Jesus, Abel Ferreira, and Sergio Conceicao.  Earlier, coach Jose Mourinho was considered among the options, but he was transferred to Real Madrid. Martinez is expected to step down after his contract expires this summer. The Belgian coach shows a desire to return to the English Premier League, in addition to entering into negotiations with the Saudi Al-Nasr Club. It is noteworthy that the Portuguese national team was unable to achieve victory in its first match in the World Cup, as its match with the Republic of the Congo national team ended in a draw (1-1).
