New comment from Guberniev: “Ronaldo is great” after a distinguished performance in the 2026 World Cup

Sports commentator Dmitry Guberniev radically changed his opinion about Cristiano Ronaldo, the star of the Portugal national team, after less than a week. Ronaldo, 41 years old, scored two goals during Portugal's match against Uzbekistan in the group stage of the 2026 World Cup, which ended with Portugal's 5-0 victory, to be announced as the best player in the match.

Guberniev said on his Telegram channel: “Cristiano Ronaldo is definitely great! It is wrong for others to attack him, as the correct understanding of football is the most important!”

Before that, on June 17, Guberniev had criticized Ronaldo's performance after Portugal's disappointing 1-1 draw with the Democratic Republic of the Congo in the first round of Group K. He said: "The Portuguese national team cannot approach football this way! It's an irresponsible approach! Cristiano should be excluded from the starting lineup! He missed two chances, and his time is up! There are other players capable of playing!"
