Sergio Lozano's number '9' has become immortal in Palau
FC Barcelona lifted the shirt of all-time top scorer Sergio Lozano, who is considered the most active player in the club's history, in a special celebration. The player, who spent 14 seasons with the team, winning 34 titles, expressed his feelings towards Barcelona as if it were his home.
The '9' number of Sergio Lozano, one of the most prominent futsal players in FC Barcelona's history, has become immortal in the Palau Blaugrana Hall. After 14 successful seasons, in which he won 34 titles, and retired as the all-time top scorer (344 goals) and one of the most capped players (520 appearances) for the team, Lozano received a well-deserved tribute after the first match of the league knockout stage against Valdebbie.
During the celebration, which was attended by his family and former teammates, Lozano became the second player in the history of futsal to receive this honour, joining his close friend Paco Sedano, who dedicated his shirt number '28' to this honour.
Lozano said in his speech: "I thank everyone. Since I arrived here 15 years ago, I have felt that Barcelona is my home. I thank everyone who passed through the Palau hall. It makes me happy to play on this ground and to make you all proud." Lozano received warm applause from the fans, who wanted to express their gratitude for his great contribution to the team's victories.
Lozano stated that he did not receive support like he did from his daughter and wife, adding: “I want to thank you for everything you did for me. You were my support in the most difficult moments.” The legendary player could not hold back his tears when his daughter gave him a surprise dance on the pitch and when he saw his shirt raised.

“I couldn't hold back my tears because there's someone in heaven who would be proud,” Lozano added. This was a reference to his father.
While a number of Lozano's former teammates attended the celebration, such as Ferrero, Ary Santos, Fernando, and Jordi Torras, in addition to former first-team players Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba, who sent a special message.
Lozano received a plaque from the club's presidents, Joan Laporta and Ralph Yoest, as a tribute to his brilliant career with Barcelona.
Lozano's '9' shirt is the 17th shirt to be lifted at Palau Blaugrana. Besides Sedano's jersey (28), the outstanding numbers also include those of basketball players Andres Jiménez (4), Nacho Solotharbal (7), Juan Carlos Navarro (11) and more. This reflects the overall greatness of the club where Lozano had a prominent role.
