Rennes is negotiating with coach Frank Hayes about a contract extension
Rennes is heading to extend the contract of coach Frank Hayes, who succeeded in returning the team to European competition, after his return from Nice.
Rennes announced the start of negotiations with its coach, Frank Haes, about extending his contract, according to the club's sporting director, Loic Desir. Hayes returned to Stade Rennes, where he previously served as youth coach, in the winter transfer window as a free agent after being sacked by Ineos-owned club Nice.
Hayes took over after former coach Habib Peay left for Marseille, and quickly turned around Rennes' fortunes, leading the team back into European competition with eight wins in twelve Ligue 1 matches.
Rennes showed its ambitions early in the transfer market by signing Adrian Thomas, Issa Soumare, and Gonzalo Oliveira, in addition to extending the contract of the top scorer in Ligue 1 last season, Esteban Lipole.
Now, Rennes is seeking to bring stability and continuity to the coaching staff by extending Hayes' contract. "Negotiations have begun. Frank has done a very good job with his staff since his arrival. He knows the city, the region and the club very well, and we want to build a long-term relationship with him," Desir told Ost-France.
It is noteworthy that Hayes' contract with Rennes extends until June 2027.
