Saverio Sticky Damian: “We gave up when it was impossible not to, but we didn't need to”
Saverio Staci Damian, President of Lecce, spoke about the club's financial situation and the importance of sustainability in the transfer market, citing the release of some players as a necessary step to achieve stability.
During a press conference today, Saverio Staci Damian, president of Lecce, spoke about several topics, including the club's financial situation and transfer plans. “Our plan is always about sustainability, and we have not yet talked about numbers or budget,” said Stuck Damian. “Right now, Terencera will meet with the coach to discuss what the team is missing, and if things agree, we will continue together. We are behind this year, but these are the circumstances we faced.”
He also referred to abandoning some players, saying: “This year we made some transfers that were impossible not to do. These steps are necessary to give stability to the club, and we do not oppose this process. But we do not need to abandon players to save budgets as other clubs do.”
Regarding the financial situation, he added: "The excellent work done in the years after the decline helped recover losses, and this path has been completed. But, without the additional profits, Lecce remains in a structural loss position. We have -15 or -17 starting points, which is lower than in other places, which is compensated by debt. It is different for us, and the additional profits help us close the gap before we can operate in the market."

He also touched on the return of some players from loan, as he said: “We have a number of players who will return from loan, and we have to work on this aspect. Staying in Serie A is very difficult, so I cannot say that I would have changed anything last year. We always start from the back, and the competitors are fierce, and the situation will be like that this year.”
Regarding the stadium, he said: "I visited the stadium, and seeing the place was like a workshop that left a mark. It is a big date in history. During registration, we had to identify an alternative stadium, and in the few hours that followed, the club backed down, and now we have less than 48 hours. We will probably never play in another stadium, but it is necessary. We have a lot of work to do with Bologna, with the help of the mayor and the authorities."
“The Lecce model exists and it is important,” Stucki Damian concluded. “We have to support people who have excelled, developed and created with us, this is part of our philosophy, and this will also apply to the youth sector. To achieve this, we had to follow a certain path. Producing talent locally is an additional step towards character development.”
