Arsenal continue their active moves in the transfer market, with the focus now shifting towards finding a defensive solution from the Premier League. According to multiple reports, talks with Aston Villa over the signing of defender Ezri Konsa are progressing, with growing expectations about the possibility of concluding a deal developing over the past weeks.

News suggests there is significant progress in discussions, with Arsenal believing a deal is close to being completed. Aston Villa were initially sticking with £60m, but there is a growing feeling that an agreement could be made for closer to £50m, with final details on add-ons and payment terms being negotiated.

From Arsenal's side, Konsa's appeal is clear, as he has the quality to play as a centre-back, and can also play as a right-back, which has become very important given the team's current problems. The report describes Konsa as the "perfect defensive addition" due to his "ability to play in both positions".

The move is more a result of difficult circumstances than a strategy, with William Saliba expected to be sidelined until next year, while Jurian Timber has only just returned to training after missing the World Cup finals due to a thigh injury. In this context, striving to strengthen defense has become a priority rather than a luxury.

Konsa is an elite player who knows the Premier League well and is tactically reliable, giving Mikel Arteta the ability to tweak systems over the course of a long season. Arsenal are not just looking to buy cover, but are targeting a player capable of starting important matches in multiple positions.

One of the highlights of this evolving case concerns Ben White, as there has been interest from clubs such as Everton and Inter Milan. However, Arsenal's view on the possibility of White leaving has changed, with it becoming clear that they "are not seeking to let White leave during this window", and this reflects a strong message within the club.

Although White's role was reduced last season after Temper became Arteta's first choice, the focus on stabilizing the squad has become important. Konsa is expected to add new options in the back line rather than replace White. Villa appear to be preparing for this scenario as well, as they move closer to completing a deal for Aaron Wan-Bissaka, strengthening their ability to approve Konsa's departure.

All these developments indicate that the deal is approaching its final stages, with those familiar with the negotiations believing that the clubs are “close to reaching an agreement on both fees and structure”, and it is expected that more points will be discussed before any formal agreement is concluded. Currently, the trend is clear, with Arsenal gunning for Ezri Konsa, while their stance on Ben White is becoming stronger. For Arsenal fans, the move appears to be a smart move in planning.

What's next?

Talks between Arsenal and Aston Villa are expected to continue, as the London club seeks to complete the deal as soon as possible. If the deal goes through, Konsa will strengthen the defence, which could contribute to improving Arsenal's chances of competing for titles in the Premier League.
