Alexandra Popp proved she is one of the most prominent legends in women's football, scoring twice in her first match for Borussia Dortmund during a 3-0 win over Arminia Bielefeld in the German third division. The match was attended by 4,572 fans, a large number that reflects the growing support for the city's women's team.

Pope, who returned to Dortmund, the club she had supported since her childhood, was an inspiration not only to the fans, but also to many of the team's young players. “It was a great atmosphere. We had over 4,000 people here in the stadium, which was amazing,” Pope said after the game.

Dortmund's women's team has only been around since 2020, yet they have made remarkable progress since then. Popp, who was until recently the captain of the German national team, chose to return to Dortmund after a successful career at Wolfsburg, where she won numerous trophies. “I have two options: to stay at Wolfsburg or move to my favorite club, Borussia Dortmund. It didn’t take long to make the decision,” adds Popp.

It is noteworthy that the sales of its shirt have now exceeded the shirt sales of Serho Guerrassi, the team's all-time top scorer. This reflects the huge impact her comeback has had. Although the technical level may be lower than what Bob is used to, being on the team presents a new challenge for her. “It's a new experience for me, and I hope I can inspire the young girls here,” Pope said.

The Armenia match was a tough challenge, as Pope faced some harsh treatment from the players of the opposing team, and two players were shown yellow cards due to repeated fouls on her. Bob believes that this type of treatment is part of the game, and is ready to play in any area of the field to create space for the team.

The coaches and young players on the team appreciated the presence of Pope, who always tries to build a good relationship with her teammates. “The relationship is very normal, the girls here talk to me constantly, and this is very important,” she added.

Borussia Dortmund, who finished last season with a goal difference of more than 100, is now seeking promotion to the first division, and Pope's presence represents a big step towards achieving this goal. "This is the first, the championship. I hope we can make further progress. We have a dream to be in the first league as soon as possible," stressed Pope, who signed a three-year contract.

With all these challenges and ambitions, it seems that Alexandra Pope is back where she belongs, and is ready to lead the team towards a bright future.

What's next?

As the season continues, Pope is expected to play a pivotal role in boosting the team's performance, which could positively impact their results in League Three. The increase in sales of its shirts indicates its great influence on the fans, which may contribute to attracting more fans to the team’s matches.
