Reading owner Rob Cohg has ambitious goals next season to make the club financially sustainable and push towards promotion to a higher league. During an appearance on a radio show on BBC Radio Berkshire, Kohgh stressed the importance of these goals as the start of the English Premier League season approaches.

Reading will start their season with a home match against Luton Town, and the club has worked extensively over the summer to make improvements to the stadium. Some of the club's fans have expressed their dissatisfaction with Kohg due to the slow pace of the transfer market, and questions have arisen about his future with the club in light of some of the challenges he has faced in the recent period.

Kohg, who is 77 years old, confirms that he intends to achieve several goals with the club before considering selling it. “I can't be satisfied until I make this club sustainable and we are on our way to promotion,” he said. Last year was Kohge's first full year as owner, and saw a change in management following the sacking of coach Noel Hunt in October.

Reading will be hoping to improve on their performance after finishing 12th last season, 12 points off the promotion places. Kohg confirms that the main goal is to reach the promotion qualification places, as he stated: “Since the first day of my ownership of the club, our goal has been promotion. We expect to qualify this year, and we strive to play in the play-offs if that is the option available to us.”

When Kohgh bought Reading, the club was at its worst under previous ownership, facing transfer sanctions and a points shortage. Now, Kohg hopes the club can support itself financially by the end of the season through increased revenues. “Financial sustainability is another goal we are aiming to achieve by the end of this season,” he says. “We want to not have to rely on owner financing, and for the club to be able to support itself.”

Reading still has some time to go until the end of the transfer market, having signed a number of players such as Udoka Godwin-Maleev and Josh Stokes, with Kohg confirming that he and his management partner, Joe Jacobson, will be busy in the market over the coming weeks. “We will sign as many players as we need this season,” he added. “I think the club is better than it was last year, and we are progressing with our new players. My preference is to sign players early in the market, but this final stage sees the number of available players increasing.”,

As the start of the new season approaches, Kohg is expected to focus on strengthening the squad and improving overall performance. Reading's first match against Luton Town will be an important test to see how prepared the team is to achieve its goals in the Championship.
