After a long absence, Song Lam Nghe An returns to lead the Vietnamese League for the first time in more than 4 years, having not suffered any defeat so far.
SLNA is in the V-League 2026-2027.

Song Lam Nghe An (SLNA) achieved a historic achievement after climbing to the top of the Vietnam League (V-League) table for the first time in more than 4 years, becoming the only unbeaten team after the end of the fifth round of the 2026-2027 season. The last time the SLNA finished first was in the seventh round of the league on July 16, 2022.

This achievement comes as a huge surprise given the lack of investment in the team, which relies heavily on players developed internally, demonstrating the success of the club's academy in preparing talent. Historically, SLNA achieved Vietnamese league titles in 1999-2000, 2000-2001, and 2011, but has since suffered a decline in form, having not cracked the top three since then, with their best finish in recent years being fourth place in 2012, 2013, and 2018.

In recent seasons, SLNA's results have been mixed, finishing fifth in 2022, ninth in 2023, 12th in 2023-2024 and 2024-2025, and ninth again in 2025-2026. However, the start of the 2026-2027 season signals a turnaround in the team's fortunes, as they have managed to collect 11 points from 5 matches, with 3 wins and 2 draws.

SLNA had victories over teams such as Bắc Ninh (1-0), Hanoi (4-1), and tied with Công an TP HCM (1-1) before drawing with Hà Tĩnh (2-2) and picking up another victory over HAGL (2-0).

SLNA also became the only team still unbeaten, after Ninh Bình was defeated by Công an TP HCM (0-1) on October 25. In the match against Ninh Bình, the hosts had a strong start who pressed in the first twenty minutes, but the match developed into an open confrontation.

The most notable moment of the match came in the 29th minute, when player Nguyễn Quốc Việt fired a shot from far away, but goalkeeper Lê Giang Patrik was able to save it. In the second half, Ninh Bình continued to dominate, but they were unable to create clear-cut chances. On the other hand, Công an TP HCM relied on a defense and counter strategy, where Olaha excelled.

In the 84th minute, Ninh Bình almost conceded a goal when Kevin Yamga succeeded in getting the ball into the net, but the referee disallowed the goal for offside. However, in the fifth minute of stoppage time, Olaha led a charge from his own court and passed to Jason Cummings who scored the winner, with all the visiting players celebrating the goal in excitement.

With this victory, Ninh Bình's balance freezes at 10 points in fourth place, while SLNA tops the table with 11 points, in what appears to be a promising start to a new season.

What's next?
