The Worksham team is preparing to face Manchester United in a friendly match as part of the team’s preparations for the new season, with the team’s coach, Phil Parkinson, describing this match as a “great test” for the team. The match will take place in Helsinki on Saturday, with Worceham looking to produce a strong performance despite the absence of a number of United players who participated in the World Cup.

In the summer of 2023, Workham beat a young Manchester United team 3-1 in a friendly match in San Diego. Parkinson stresses the importance of this match for both teams, saying: “It is an important match for them as it is for us. They have players who will return late, but they still have a lot of first-team players available for the match. So, it is a big opportunity for us, really. As always, when we were in the other divisions, we looked at these matches as a test, and this match will be no different.”

Parkinson is looking to improve the team's defensive performance, as he emphasized the importance of off-the-ball movement against quality teams. He adds: “But as we have always done, we will not go to these matches just to stop the opponent. After facing United at the Olympic Stadium in Helsinki, Workham will travel to the United States next week to face teams such as Leeds United, Liverpool and Sunderland.

The Worksham team, owned by Hollywood star Ryan Reynolds and his friend Rob Mack, has a history of playing friendly matches against big teams in recent years. “If you look at the past years, especially our trips to America, we played high-level matches,” Parkinson says. The main goal for all teams is for the match to be at the right level of intensity, and for there to be a competitive element. Of course, no one wants to get injured at any stage, but especially at this stage of the preparation period.

Parkinson hopes that this match will be at the same level as the previous matches the team played, as the players seek to prepare well before traveling to America. He also pointed out that defenders Dom Hayom and Liberato Kasaki returned to training after participating with their teams in the World Cup, as Kasaki started in all three of New Zealand's matches, while Hayom did not participate in any match with Scotland.

At the end of his speech, Parkinson stressed the importance of the experience that the players had in the tournament, saying: “I spoke with Libby and Dom while they were away, and I was in touch with them. Of course, the results were disappointing, but Scotland were in a very difficult group, and New Zealand is always in a somewhat difficult position. But it was an amazing experience.
