Howe unsure over Guimaraes amid Arsenal interest.

Newcastle United coach Eddie Howe expressed his uncertainty about the future of team captain Bruno Guibara, in light of Arsenal's interest in signing him. Howe confirmed that he had held positive talks with Guibara, but could not offer any guarantees about his future.

According to press reports, Arsenal is preparing to make an offer worth 70 million pounds to obtain the services of the Brazilian player, but Newcastle does not want to lose their star.

"I've had some good conversations with him before the World Cup, during the World Cup and after the World Cup," Howe said after Newcastle's friendly match against Gateshead. "What we talk about has to remain private, but he's a great player and a great character. I don't know what's going to happen in Bruno's future, that's for others to speculate about. These are conversations I'm not involved in."

Following Brazil's World Cup exit at the hands of Norway, Guibarra spent a holiday with his family and is expected to return to Newcastle on Friday and join a training camp in Spain.

It should be noted that comparisons have been made between Guibarra's case and Liverpool's attempt to sign Alexander Isak last summer, as the latter player pushed for a move from Newcastle. But Howe stressed that there is nothing preventing Guibara from returning to training with us.

Howe added in his comments: "We have to look at the situation objectively. Guibara is the captain of our club, and he has been a great player and person throughout our time together. I speak for everyone at the club, we absolutely love him, and of course everyone will want him to stay."

On the other hand, Newcastle's midfield was affected by the departure of player Sandro Tonali, who moved to Tottenham in a deal that could reach 100 million pounds sterling. Two young players, Sean Store and Aladje Bamba, have joined from Ajax and Monaco respectively.

Although Saturday's game was too early for Bamba, whose transfer was announced on Friday, Storr played 90 minutes.

Howe said of Storr: "He had a good performance today. He can feel proud of his performance and his debut in Newcastle colours."

A move for Storr from the Ajax academy at the age of 18, and worth up to £23m, is considered rare. But Newcastle need to take calculated risks before the value of potential players like Storr rises to unattainable levels.

Storr has shown great promise, with Willem Weiss, who coached him in Ajax's reserve team, describing him as "among the highest-rated players" in their academy.

During the match against Gateshead, there were glimpses of Storr's technical skills, calmness and vision, but he will need some time to adapt to the physical intensity and high tempo of the Premier League.

"He's good at taking first touches and creating options while playing in possession," Weiss said. "He's good at reading the game and very comfortable with the ball in tight spaces. He's a midfielder with a Dutch flair, but he should also focus on his development points, which definitely include the defensive side. He should improve in physical competition, spend more time in the gym. I know he's working on that, but he can and should improve."

Newcastle have changed their strategy this summer, targeting players aged 20 or under, with an emphasis on players coming from the continent. All the new additions, including Sture, Bamba, and teammates Eoin Gawain and Bazouman Toure, will need patience.

All of these reasons make Howe very much want to keep Gubara, especially after losing Isaac, Tonali and Anthony Gordon last year.

Howe said: "We have to all be supportive of the players who have come in. I don't think we can put too much pressure on them. Part of my job is to try to take the pressure off them and let them develop and enjoy their time here."

What's next?
