West Ham In The Running For €8m Midfielder: Right Option For Nuno?.

West Ham United have entered into preliminary talks to sign Norwegian Bodo/Glimt midfielder Patrick Berg. Rumors about this deal spread after transfer source Ikram Connor revealed the news on the X platform, indicating that the south London club is serious about adding the Norwegian international to its ranks.

Berg is looking for a new challenge in England, as he feels he has achieved everything that can be achieved in Scandinavia. At 28 years old, he knows the time is ticking for him to get a big chance in the Premier League. But this deal may not be easy for West Ham, as they are competing with newly promoted Premier League club Coventry City, making the battle for Berg's services very interesting.

Berg raised his performance level significantly during Norway's recent participation in the World Cup, where he showed his ability to control matches from deep with great brilliance that caught the attention of many scouts. As for his numbers in the last domestic season, they were impressive, as he scored five goals in 28 matches from his position as a deep midfielder, which earned him the title of best player in the league.

Berg is the heartbeat of the Bodo/Glimt team, having touched the ball more than 80 times in matches, which is a rarity for any modern coach. With his price tag close to €8 million, this is an attractive price considering what he can offer in the Premier League.

However, there is a big problem facing him. The English Premier League and the Premier League are completely different from the Norwegian League. West Ham fans are concerned about Berg's previous experience with French club Lens in 2022, where he was unable to adapt to the speed of the French League.

Coach Nuno Espirito Santo needs extra energy in the midfield in the league. Although Berg has great positional abilities and accurate passing, his lack of speed could make him vulnerable to being overtaken by teams that rely on quick counter-attacks. Spending €8 million on a player who might just be a reserve item is a huge risk. If West Ham can get him for a lower price, he could provide good cover in a long season. But relying on him as a mainstay in the midfield in the league every week represents a huge risk, as the club needs physical strength to regain its level at the highest levels of competition.

What's next?
